Supplies: Fleece, Scissors, sewing machine (not pictured)

Step one: Cut out a rectangular piece of fleece, 26" in width and 20" in height (when finished, the width what encircles the neck and height of the cowl will be 10")

Step two: Cut a strip of fabric about 3 or 4" tall and approximately 52" long. This will serve as the ruffle around the bottom.

Step three: Fold the large rectangle of fabric width wise and machine stitch the edges together, to create a tube.

Step four: Machine stitch the length of the long strip of fabric, along the edge. Lock the first few stitches (by moving the foot back and forth a few times) but leave the ends loose.

Step five: Gently pull the bobbin thread, moving the fabric down to create a ruffle. Gather the ruffle evenly to half of its original length (it should be 26" long when finished). Tie the ends to keep the ruffle in place.

Step six: Once the ruffle is complete, machine stitch the ends together, creating a continuous ruffle.

Step seven: Back to the big tube of fabric! Fold the top down so that the raw edges meet each other and the unsightly seems are now safely hidden. Both the inside and outside of the tube should now have a clean seam.

Step eight: Pin the ruffle to the bottom of the tube, with the ruffled edge meeting the raw edges. The seamed edge (wrong side of the ruffle) should be facing up.

Step nine: Machine stitch the ruffle to the edge of the tube.

When finished, turn the ruffle out so the seam is hidden.

You now have a cozy cowl scarf with a ruffled edge!
