Supplies: Fabric, scissors, elastic, pins and sewing machine (not pictured)

Step one: Cut a rectangle of fabric, with the width measuring at least twice your waist.
Add three inches to the desired length (2.5" for the waist and .5" for the hem).

Step two (with 2a and 2b): Fold the fabric width-wise with the right sides facing each other and the wrong sides facing out.

Machine stitch the edges together, down the length of the fabric.

When turned right side out, the seam should be on the inside.

Step three: Turn the top side of the skirt down ~2.5" and machine stitch all the way around. This will serve as the paper bag waist.

Step four: Cut the elastic to the size of your waist, minus four inches (to allow for stretch). Pin the elastic directly above the stitch you just made along the waist, making sure you place it evenly.

Step five: Machine stitch the elastic, stretching evenly as you go along.

Step six: If done properly, the elastic should ruche the waistband of the skirt. Step seven: Hem the bottom of the skirt .5"

Final product: paper bag waist skirt!
